History
Ntasiah Shaw founded Educate 9-1-1 in 2006 while working as a full-time Emergency 9-1-1 dispatcher and trainer in St. Louis County, Missouri for several years. She realized that it would be beneficial if the general public had a simple resource in hand (such as a pamphlet or pocket card) which reminded them of when to use the 9-1-1 emergency number and offer tips when speaking with a 9-1-1 operator. The idea behind Educate 9-1-1 is and has always been, educating the public.
Over the last decade, Educate 9-1-1 has not only focused on education and training materials concerning the 9-1-1 emergency telephone number, but has since taken on producing material and offering services for all areas of an emergency. This includes, an easy-to-read handbook on the importance of having an alternate facility (particularly an emergency communications center) if/when severe damage should occur to the physical structure, dispatcher training material, public health emergency response and all-hazards planning, as well as emergency management and preparedness services.
